Avatar the Last Airbender: Air Nomads: Chocolate Oreo Pie

January 15, 2016

By Shannon Moloney Suggested song to play while cooking (refrigerating?): Lost in my Bedroom by Sky Ferreira The Air Nomads. Interestingly their title describes the people rather than a sovereign state. If you hadn’t guessed from the anime’s title, the main character is an air bender, the last one in fact. Talk about an endangered species. The air nomads were peaceful monks. Stately beings in touch with their spiritual selves….

Glorious Gluten-free Glazed Donut Holes

November 16, 2015

By Gabriele Boland You know what’s hard about liking Dunkin Donuts coffee and being gluten-free? Not being able to order a donut to go along with your cup of joe. And going apple picking without being able to eat a sugarcoated cider donut is pure agony. Don’t even get me started on Krispy Kremes. Luckily, there are some foods that I simply cannot live without and so I have scoured…

Spook Troop Cookies

November 9, 2015

By Shannon Moloney Suggested song to play while cooking: Time Warp, from the Rocky Horror Picture Show Like many others out there, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Once a year, you can literally be anything. A person, a thing, a pun. What an opportunity to really express your creativity, either outright or subtly. I love the costumes, the debauchery, the mystery, and the candy. To get my coworkers…

S’mores Ya Later

October 16, 2015

By Dayna Brownfield Maybe it’s the chocolate. Maybe it’s the camaraderie of sitting around a campfire. Or maybe it’s just that I like setting things on fire. OK, it’s probably the last one. But honestly, I really just enjoy lighting my food on fire – when the occasion calls for it. And yeah, I totally wrote my last post about the awesomeness of s’mores. But I’m back with s’mores news (hello…

Momofuku’s Cereal Milk Ice Cream

September 22, 2015

By Haley Herrinton It’s a foodie fixture to at least think about, dream about, or try out the famed Momofuku Milk Bar; particularly if you a) live in Manhattan, b) love sweets or c) both. I happen to be in the third category. Not knowing a lot about the famous dessert shop, except that it was THE BEST, curiosity propelled me to the glowing pink sign – that, and the…

Blender Cakes

There is a strange subset of French cakes that is made using a particularly unusual method.  While most of baking is all about lightening– making the batter fluffier, softer, airier- these particular desserts hold to the exact opposite philosophy. The usual ingredients- sugar, flour, eggs, milk- are whipped together in a blender. The entire point is to create a light, thin batter, without a whiff of an air-bubble in sight….

The S’mores Ya Know

September 10, 2015

This past weekend, I packed up my car and headed to the hills for a weekend bachelorette party – or as we affectionately came to dub it: The Baccha Loretta. And full disclosure, this weekend was…all about making cocktails, dinner, and snacks. That’s right, when my friends and I party, we ALWAYS make sure there’s a clear and definite meal plan laid out of home-cooked concoctions. Yeah, we’re awesome. I…

Eat Like a Gilmore Girl: Rocky Road Cookies

September 8, 2015

Season 1 Episode 8 “Love and War and Snow” About a year ago, I started rereading the Harry Potter series (for the thousandth time) and found myself shopping for more sweaters and blankets. A few years ago, I was more tolerant of the Kardashian clan than I am now and started filling in my already thick eyebrows with black pencil. I was also allowing a camera crew to follow me…
