Cockroach Clusters

Halloween is fast approaching, which means it’s also time to scare the shit out of little children. No, I don’t have a soul and I’m okay with that. If you have young kids or much younger siblings/cousins, it’s time we played a little game with them. The “oh my gosh you just ate a cockroach” game. Classic.

We draw inspiration from one of the greatest series ever gifted to mankind: Harry Potter. I know there are a lot of closeted Potter-heads out there… you know who you are. Let your nerd-dom be known!

Fine. You don’t have to. But you should totally use this recipe to freak out little kids. Because freaking out children is hilarious.

I give you… cockroach clusters.

Cockroach Clusters

Ingredients
Butterscotch chips
Dark Chocolate Chips
La Choy Chow Mein Noodles

Instructions
First, lay out your little clusters of noodles on a piece of wax paper so you’ll know approximately how much chocolate and butterscotch you’ll need to cover each.
Since it’s only my boyfriend and myself, we usually only make 3 or 4 at a time (but they’re huge). Feel free to make your cockroaches as big or as small as you want. I care not.

In two microwaveable cups or bowls, nuke your butterscotch chips and dark chocolate chips separately until they are melted. Give them about 30 seconds.
You will need to stir them a bit to get them to melt – be sure to check that you haven’t burned the chocolate. We want to scare the kids, not feed them charcoal.

IMG_0078 (2)In order to get a good layer of butterscotch on the noodles, and because butterscotch does not spread as well as chocolate, throw your first batch of noodles into the butterscotch bowl, and stir them carefully. Then, lay them out on a sheet of wax paper. Do this until you make the perfect amount of cockroaches, or you run out of noodles.

Once you’ve molded your clusters into the perfect cockroach size, pour the melted dark chocolate over each. Make sure to cover as much of your clusters as possible… don’t want the kids catching on too early.

IMG_0087 (2)Finally, stick ‘em in the refrigerator. They should be ready within 20 minutes or so.
