Gryffindor Cocktail and Shot

Courage is found in unlikely places. I believe Dumbledore said that—or well, it doesn’t matter exactly who said it, but what matters is what it means for us Gryffindors.

Ever since our house was propelled into the limelight thanks to some famous (and infamous) alumni, everyone seems to think they know what’s what about being a Gryffindor. According to everyone else, we are the risk-takers, the dupes who favor the dismal odds, foolhardy in their strategies, glory hogs, and braggarts with a hero-complex.

And you know what, that’s true, in some ways. But what other houses don’t get is our natural, burning passion. We burn with the fearless desire to act—and yes sometimes that excess energy manifests itself in mischief or in split-second decisions to run into burning houses to save kittens—but that’s our calling. Take pride in being the first to respond, the ones ready and raring to go when the going gets tough and someone needs to be a leader.

Of course, you do need to bank the flames every once in awhile, so relax and round off your evening with one of our signature drinks. These drinks are unassuming concoctions, easy and quick to make with little fuss and fanfare, but leave a lasting, warm impression thanks to their spicy kick.

The Lazy Lion

Being brave and daring takes a lot out of you, so unwind with this simple cocktail that embodies the vibrant colors of the Gryffindor crest. Gold hard cider is paired with red spirits that pack a delightful punch thanks to the notes of cinnamon spice—you’ll be ready for another round of blustering heroism and derring-do in no time.

1 bottle hard cider of your choice (Wood Chuck, Angry Orchard; the possibilities are nearly endless, Nick)
1 part cinnamon schnapps
1 part bourbon

In a chilled glass, pour in hard cider of your choice. Then mix in 1 part cinnamon schnapps and 1 part bourbon to your taste.

Or be bold and serve your cider alongside a shot glass of the cinnamon schnapps and bourbon mix. When ready to drink, drop your shot into the cider and down it.

Muggle Firewhiskey Shot

Let’s be real: not all of us will get the chance to taste Ogden’s Old Firewhiskey. Many a self-sacrificing Gryffindor has tried their hardest to smuggle it to their muggle mates back home, to various (disastrous) results and even expulsion. Fortunately, there’s a tried and true shot recipe to (sort of) simulate that magical, liquid burn.

1 shotglass full of Fireball whiskey
Spice of your choice; Tabasco, Sriracha sauce, etc.

First, look at your life, and look at your choices; if you want to blaze in full steam ahead, if you have a proud lion ready to make its mark beating in your chest, then you’re ready.

Mix Fireball and spice of your choice; note that this shot will taste of strong cinnamon notes first then hit with the spice as a finish, so mix wisely. Then, down it as best as you can and bask in the burn.
