Remember that song about the Twelve Days of Christmas? Sure you do. There were some drummers, some birds, some rings… Yeah, it’s not that important. That’s why we’re giving you our own take, one number a day until Christmas, so that you can celebrate the holidays by making something you’d actually want to eat. Now get counting and cooking.
Nine ladies dancing. Who knows what that line of the song referred to in the olden days? Probably some kind of pagan frolicking ceremony in the woods. But these days, it summons images of packed clubs, skintight dresses, and lots and lots of sweat. So for day nine of our countup, we’re bringing you a spiked holiday punch so epic we promise it’ll bring you any Christmas miracle you’re hoping for.
We personally recommend using this punch at a holiday party you want to get especially raucous (don’t forget the mistletoe!) but it works just as well as a fancy fruity cocktail before you hit the streets if a night in a dance club is more your idea of the reason for the season. Hot tip: it’s fun to let the raspberries and pineapple cubes soak up the alcohol at the party before you snack on them the next morning while you’re cleaning up glitter and broken candy canes. It’s a holiday tradition in everyone’s family, right?
Nine Ladies Dancing Spiked Punch
2 oranges, thinly sliced
2 lemons, thinly sliced
1 lime, thinly sliced
½ pint raspberries
1 cup fresh pineapple, cubed
1 bottle gin
1 and ¾ cups lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1 and ¼ cups simple syrup
½ cup orgeat syrup
1 cup framboise liqueur
1 bottle Prosecco, chilled
Ice cubes or fruit cubes
In a large punch bowl, combine the fruit, gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, orgeat syrup, and framboise liqueur and stir well. Try not to do too many taste tests before your guests arrive or you’ll be sprawled on the living room floor covered in tinsel half an hour into the party. Refrigerate your punch for 4 to 5 hours. Just before serving, stir in the chilled Prosecco and add ice (or, better yet, our fruit cubes) to keep cool so the party can go late into the night without watering down.
