Banana Bread

Kylie Torres Banana BreadDon’t throw out your bad bananas. Well, by bad I’m not talking about bananas that are starting their own ecosystem on your counter, throw those out, but bananas that have browned past the point where you really want to eat them. Instead of tossing the nanners, make them into bread. It’s super simple. You can’t mess it up. Seriously. If you do, I’m going to be worried about you.

Banana Bread

1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/4 cup apple sauce
1 cup browning mashed bananas (about 2)
1 tbsp cold water

Preheat that oven to your standard 350. Go ahead and grease one regular sized bread pan or several mini ones for an extra cuteness factor. Set aside.

Combine your dry ingredients in a bowl, the white sugar, brown sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt. Be sure to mix it well or you’ll have clumps of salt and baking soda in your bread and whoever bites into that chunk will hate you, resulting in you losing their trust forever.

In a separate bowl, smash together the shortening, apple sauce, bananas, and water. Really mash it. Take your pent up anger out on those bananas.

Now, combine the liquid and dry ingredients. Be sure to stir well, if you feel like dealing with cleaning beaters after the fact, use an electric mixer.

Fill your pan of choice about half way with the mix. Bake the bread for about 40 minutes for a large loaf and 25 for those adorable little ones. Test the bread with a toothpick in the center to be sure it’s done, you know the drill. Cover with extra brown sugar after you pull it out of the oven for that Instagram worthy picture.
