House Cup Winners: Slytherin

Mind if we slither in?

I’d say it’s lonely at the top, but Slytherin appears to have more friends than the rest. That’s right. There’s no Dumbledore to pass out miscellaneous points until his house comes in first. Rightfully earned, Slytherin is number one. Perhaps this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone though. Our ambition is what sets us apart; we would never have settled for second place (or, God forbid, anything lower).

But this isn’t everything we stand for. Sometimes we’re willing to place it all on the line for things that don’t make sense. After all, we were the house where Severus Snape was forged. Despite the harassment from those who pretend to be stout of heart, we know what it truly means to be brave.

“But this is touching, Severus,” said Dumbledore seriously. “Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?”
“For him?” shouted Snape. “Expecto Patronum!”
From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe: She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
“After all this time?”
“Always,” said Snape.

2 oz. Cruzan Black Strap rum
2 oz. apple cider
¼ teaspoon absinthe
Dash of lavender bitters

Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with lime. We figure that you’ve already bought the absinthe for The Regulus, you might as well continue using it for our other Slytherin favorite drinks. Black Strap is a strong liquor that smells and tastes of molasses. It might be a little weird at first, but we promise that the drink will grow on you just as much as the man who named it.

The Doe

1 oz. white rum
2 oz. apple cider
Cinnamon sugar
1 slice of orange

Run orange slice across rim of the cocktail glass and dip in cinnamon sugar. Combine white rum with apple cider in an
ice-filled shaker and shake. Strain into the prepared cocktail glass. Garnish with the orange slice.

This drink is for Lily Evans, who (though not a Slytherin) captured the heart of Severus Snape. Much like Lily, The Doe might not be the cunning serpent of our house, but it will take your breath away all the same.
