Apple Dumps

December is upon us, and ‘tis the season of holiday parties, long-lost relatives, and other situations that are generally enhanced by the presence of sugary sweets. These apple dumplings are easy enough to whip up before the holiday work potluck you forgot you signed up for back in October; but they’re so tasty no one will dare call you a Scrooge. Plus, how often do you really get the chance to cook with Mountain Dew? We’re betting it’s not that often. Don’t waste that chance now.

Easy Apple Dumplings

2 packages crescent rolls
3 Red Delicious apples
2 Golden Delicious apples
2 sticks unsalted sweet cream butter
1 and ½ cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup Mountain Dew (or other lemon-lime soda)

Spray a 9×13 pan or glass baking dish with non-stick spray.

Peel, core, and slice all five apples into thin slices. Wrap 3-4 slices in each crescent roll and place them in two rows into the pan.

Over medium-low heat, melt the two sticks of butter. Once they are completely melted, add the sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.

Stir over heat for a couple of minutes, then pour the mixture evenly over the crescent roll-wrapped apples. Be sure to coat each crescent roll evenly and completely.

Pour the cup of Mountain Dew or substitute soda around the edges and down the middle of the pan, but not directly on top of the crescent rolls.

Add more cinnamon on top if desired.

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for roughly 30-40 minutes, until done.

Finally, eat half a pan’s worth of dumplings in one sitting and feel no regret whatsoever.
