A Drink To Make Mary Mary Quite Contrary Proud
My dad has a solution for everything. Bad day at work: take a shot of whiskey. Good day at work: take a shot of whiskey. Raining outside: take a shot of whiskey. Having family over for Thanksgiving: take a (double) shot of whiskey.
Basically, my dad believes a little bit of whiskey can help with anything. It’s no wonder that my favorite go-to “grown-up” drinks involve whiskey – what can I say, I’m a whiskey woman. So, I decided to try my hand at something more complicated than a Jack & Coke.
While falling down the Pinterest hole, I came across a recipe from Levo League (a women-centric job site I used to frequent) for a Bourbon Rosemary Fizz. And after clicking the link I came to this wonderful drink.
I mean, the drink combines bourbon, ginger ale, and rosemary – what more could a gal ask for?
Rosemary Bourbon Fizz
Sprig of rosemary
Half a lemon
1 teaspoon sugar
Bourbon (I used OYO’s Bourbon Whiskey Michelone Reserve*)
Ginger ale (I used Reed’s Premium Ginger Brew)
Get out your shaker and add your sprig of rosemary, then squeeze the lemon half into the shaker. Add one teaspoon of sugar and muddle it all together (apparently, there is a thing called a “muddler.” But if don’t have one, then use the back of a wooden spoon and kinda twist and press. Basically you want to be able to smell the rosemary).
Next, add a few ice cubes and 1 ounce of Bourbon. Now shake it! Shake it real good!
Pour and strain the mixture into a glass with a few extra ice cubes and finish off by adding the Ginger Ale. If you feel like being a fancypants, then garnish with a(nother) sprig of Rosemary
Now raise your glass and salute yourself for making a drink that had more than “and add shot” in the directions.
*This stuff is EXPENSIVE (I got it as an Xmas gift from a very generous Santa). I suggest just using a standard bourbon.
