Cheesy Taco Super Bowl Mix

26

There’s no better reason to dirty a bunch of bowls than that great monument to commercialism and athletic performance, the Super Bowl. What other event could successfully unify your roommate’s obnoxious boyfriend (who lives and dies on the achievements of a group of men he’ll never meet), your cynical work friends (who dissect the commercials with the fanaticism and attention to detail of film scholars), and that awkward neighbor who keeps insisting you need to “hang out”? This American tradition has something for everyone.

Silver Spork News has something for everyone too, and it’s our cheesy taco snack mix. The taco seasoning gives it a kick of flavor that rides strong atop popcorn, peanuts, pretzels, and cheesy crackers. This mix is so good it’ll even distract the creepy neighbor from making small talk with you… Or it’ll make him keep coming back later. Hey, we can’t solve all your problems for you.

Cheesy Taco Super Bowl Mix

Ingredients
4 cups lightly salted popcorn
2 cups pretzels
2 cups cheese crackers (Cheez-its, anyone?)
1 cup peanuts
⅓ cup coconut oil, melted
⅓ cup hot sauce
2 tablespoons taco seasoning

Taco Seasoning
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon cumin
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cayenne powder

Instructions
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.

In a large bowl, add the popcorn, pretzels, crackers, and peanuts. Now, shake them up. Maybe put Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” on just to make it interesting.

In a small bowl, combine the melted coconut oil, hot sauce, and taco seasoning. Pour over the popcorn mixture and shake well to coat the mixture completely. Play the Taylor Swift song again, except louder this time.

Spread out onto prepared baking sheet evenly, trying not to let the mixture overlap too much. Place in oven. Bake 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Taylor Swift’s words should be buzzing around inside your head like a horde of angry bees by now. When done baking, remove from oven, let cool, then store in an airtight container.

Finally, play Taylor one last time before your football-loving guests arrive at your party. You should know it by heart now.
